Head of Programmes (HoP)

Job Description

We’re seeking a passionate and driven Head of Programmes to manage our flagship programmes — The Period Fellowship (TPF) and Hello Saathi — with a roadmap to grow their portfolio to include our core behavior-change programme, PeriodShaala, over the next 12 months. By 2026, we aim to impact 2.5 million menstruators and allies by de-stigmatizing menstrual, sexual and reproductive health (MHH & SRH) through these key programmes.

This Head of Programmes will report directly to the COO and be accountable for a team of 30, including the following direct reports:

  • The Period Fellowship (TPF) Manager who oversees a cohort of 9 Period Fellows placed across
  • Two Hello Saathi Project Managers who manage our growing team of 18 helpline agents
  • Partnerships Manager who oversees our strategic partnerships with key NGOs, institutions and Government Departments

Within the next 12-months, this portfolio will grow to include the Behaviour Change Campaigns Manager. In response to the health risks associated with the pandemic, we’ve chosen to embrace the switch to remote working. This role is not required to be based out of a particular state and will manage teams remotely.

We have had to adapt with agility to meet the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, hence we are seeking an equally agile, proactive, and passionate Head of Programmes to drive these programmes forward. Visit our website to learn more about these programmes.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide meaningful direction and support to the TPF Manager, Intelehealth Program Managers, and Partnerships Manager to ensure programme and partnership objectives are on track despite COVID-19 disruptions. Note, as we are a remote working organization, teams are managed remotely via Zoom and phone calls
  • Provide analysis on monthly/quarterly performance for all programmes, ensuring overall targets are met via proactive risk management, creative problem solving, and timely escalation
  • Contribute to the development of the overall Partnerships strategy, ensuring the sustainability of strategic partnerships
  • Prepare budgets, sharing monthly/quarterly reports on programme costs
  • Implement the leadership journey and processes for The Period Fellowship and collaboratively work on programme design with the Fellowship Manager and Design, Learning & Development Manager
  • Effectively oversee the mental and physical wellbeing of the cohort by staying informed about COVID-19 and taking adaptive decisions around fellowship activities
  • Maintain strong feedback loops with the COO, sharing key risks, challenges, and opportunities on a fortnightly basis
  • Support Design, Learning & Development and Governance teams in training, monitoring, and evaluation
  • Pulse check key gaps in skills, attitudes or behaviors within the team and facilitate capacity building sessions
  • Effectively manage a remote working culture, championing Uninhibited’s culture, values, and working norms to ensure your team feels connected to the wider organization

Who you are:

  • Have recognized undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline
  • Passionate about gender equity, women empowerment, or menstrual health
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity, remain cool-headed when there are curveballs, and withstand the tests of a rapidly changing environment with resilience and resolve
  • Highly organized and resourceful, with an ability to drive focus, clarity, and prioritization
  • 5–6 years experience building and leading teams and implementing programmes on the ground
  • An exceptional communicator with an ability to drive accountability in remote teams
  • An instinctive self-starter and problem solver who can quickly identify opportunities and make the most of them
  • Low ego, collaborative team member; motivated to work with other verticals to improve the quality of programmes
  • Data-driven with excellent documentation skills; ability to analyze and share key insights with Program Managers
  • Empathetic, respectful, and grounded with a strong understanding of the role organizational culture plays in motivating and retaining teams
  • Fluent in spoken and written English. Fluency in Hindi is a bonus

What we offer:

  • A flexible remote working culture rooted in our organizational values of respect, empathy, and trust
  • Competitive NGO salary
  • Growth and development opportunities to engage with our comprehensive Monitoring & Evaluation tools, Theory of Change and Impact Assessment, and Training methodologies
  • Access to a flourishing network within the social development sector

About Uninhibited

Uninhibited aims to uplift 2.5 million vulnerable menstruators across India over the next five years, specifically working with marginalized groups such as sex workers, trans people, low-income and rural communities to de-stigmatize menstrual, sexual, and reproductive health (MHH & SRH) and reduce long-term gender inequity. Menstruation is believed to be ‘impure’ and overwhelming stigma, taboos and a lack of knowledge prevents menstruators from seeking healthcare, making informed choices about their bodies, and participating in school and the workforce.

Our mission is to create safe spaces for uninhibited conversations with not only menstruators but the wider community of men and boys, local elders, and teachers to normalize MHH & SRH. Through our four key programs, we’ve seen menstruators participate equitably in school, the workforce, and society during menstruation and experience better health and wellbeing. Our programs include:

  • Telehealth Helpline (Hello Saathi) — a free menstrual and sexual reproductive helpline that provides access to telemedicine consults and digital prescriptions, IVR-based health education, and self-care advice via our trained helpline assistants (launched in 2020 as part of COVID-19 response)
  • Community & Schools Programme (PeriodShala) — enabling behavior change among marginalized menstruators and men through safe spaces and open dialogue around MHH & SRH
  • The Period Fellowship (TPF) — a 15-month grassroots fellowship to shape future menstrual and sexual reproductive health leaders. The 2021–22 cohort is a team of 9 Period Fellows placed in rural Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, kicking off on June 14, 2021.
  • PeriodPreneurs (PP) — 13-month incubator to nurture MHH & SRH start-ups in new regions to strengthen the menstrual health ecosystem
